A video about the Apollo butterfly has won a prestigious award at the 20th FilmAT Festival!
The film tells the story of the Apollo butterfly’s reintroduction in Karkonoski Park Narodowy (Karkonosze National Park) – a process that began almost 20 years ago, long before our current project started.
Those early efforts eventually led to the large-scale LIFE Apollo2020, carried out in Poland, Czechia, and Austria.
It brings together our organisations – KPN, Klub Przyrodników (Naturalists’ Club), Český svaz ochránců přírody Hradec Králové (Czech Union of Nature Conservation Hradec Králové), Vzdělávací a informační středisko Bílé Karpaty (Education and Information Center White Carpathians) – in a joint effort to protect this critically endangered species in Europe.
In the video, you can see one of the sites where our project is being carried out – the “Kruczy Kamień” Nature Reserve. Roman Rąpała, a member of our team, explains the biology of the species, how the conservation work was conducted (and actually still is), and what had been achieved up to that point and what had already been achieved by then.
The award ceremony took place in Warsaw and was attended by the creator of the video – Anna Szwałek, as well as Dariusz Kuś, our LIFE Apollo2020 national coordinator from Karkonosze National Park.

Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who helped launch these important efforts to protect the Apollo butterfly!
We warmly encourage you to watch the video* on YouTube:
*The video is in Polish with German translation, and English subtitles are also available.

The film was created as part of the project “Śląsk – wspólne dziedzictwo przyrodnicze i kulturowe”, implemented under the Interreg Poland–Saxony 2014–2020 programme.
